                                                                          Music Student Assistance Program

In 2009, Brunswick Bands Inc. founded the  Music Student Assistance Program or MSAP. The goal of this program is to provide an opportunity for all middle and high school students in Brunswick County to participate in music programs by loaning gently used instruments to students who might otherwise be unable to afford the expense of renting.  Through generous donations of used instruments by members of our community, we are able to provide dozens of instruments for student in the area to play.
Benjamin Edwards has been a music teacher for 20 years at South Brunswick Middle School and is grateful for the MSAP program:
"I am grateful for the M.S.A.P. (Music Student Assistance Program). During my 20 years at South Brunswick Middle School, I have been able to say that "all students can learn a band instrument." M.S.A.P. has helped me with that goal by providing instruments for students in need. The program has helped me serve the entire community and bring concert band participation to more students."

A thankful parent writes:
"I am grateful for the M.S.A.P. (Music Student Assistance Program). Our son expressed interest in playing the saxophone when he was in 7th grade. His band director told us about the Brunswick Bands MSAP program. We requested and received a very nice, refurbished saxophone. That instrument stayed with our son through high school. Upon graduation and acceptance into his college marching band, we purchased for him a new saxophone.

Thank you, Brunswick Bands, your program provided our son with the opportunity to explore music and it became a passion that he will carry forward for years to come."

Persons with an instrument in good playing condition and for which they have no further use are asked to consider donating it to our MSAP.   Because the Brunswick Concert Band is a 501 (c) (3) organization, the value of the instrument is tax-deductible, and donors can enjoy knowing they have helped a young person get on the road to a rewarding and exciting career as a student musician.

A special mention and shout out to Mr. Jim Varno of Varno Musical Instrument Repair, Inc. (www.varnorepair.com) in Leland, NC for his expertise in assessing and repairing our student instruments. We highly recommend him for your instrumental repair needs.
